Ayurveda For Anxiety

Understand and manage Anxiety through Ayurveda

Anxiety can be considered a hyper-aroused state of the nervous system which is influenced by various types of stress(ors) and dictates the direction of other potentially health-related issues, affecting mind, body and spirit.  Ayurveda, known as the science of life, is a holistic medical science connected with the yogic tradition. In this workshop we will explore the root causes of anxiety, how anxiety can be triggered, and how to manage and reduce anxiety according to Eastern tradition and philosophy.

Ayurveda is a holistic approach to healing that individualizes care according to the constitution of each individual. Ayurveda is the sister science of Yoga and in its literal translation is the "Science of Life." Through this 6-week study of Ayurveda you will experience combined lessons in yoga and Ayurveda which are designed specifically to provide you with tools to reduce holiday stress and eat healthfully. Men's Health Series- East Meets West
A 6-week series with Vishnu


This is a six week series designed specifically to address men's health within the perspective of yoga and yogic medicine (Ayurveda) in a forum setting.  Class will be an hour and a half long and will include open discussion, specific asana's, dietary recommendations, breathing and meditation techniques, along with general guidelines for maintaining good health. Students will come away with insight that will increase perception and encourage a sense of balance and well-being.

Setting a Solid Foundation for Your Yoga practice

For new practioners or those who have never before done yoga. If you have always wanted to try a yoga class, but felt intimidated due to lack of flexibility, coordination or the prospect of sheer embarrassment, then this workshop is for you. We will move slowly as we start from the beginning and learn fundamental yoga movements, (asana) and basic breathing techniques. We encourage you to bring any and all questions you have along with you.

 

Body Rolling, Spine, Torso and Pelvis with Heather Marie Miller

Do you feel restriction in your spine?

Do you feel tightness in your spine, and restriction in your torso? Do you feel you cannot move your spine with grace and fluidity? In this workshop, we'll explore the connections between all of these areas, and how they effect movement and posture. You'll leave with a greater appreciation of how these areas affect each other, and how they effect your daily movements, whether it's walking across the street, or moving in and out of yoga poses. You will feel like someone has given you a stimulating and posture enhancing massage in all of these areas, and you may find that you move through the rest of your day with ease.

 

Detox For Life

Purify your physical body and connect with your emotional Self

In this vigorous vinyasa workshop you will work hard and your body and mind will feel the benefit. Allowing time to purify not just the physical body, but the emotional body as well is what this valuable practice is all about. This detoxification workshop allows for the release of toxins which when accumulated often enable us to remain entrenched in habits and patterns that may not serve us. This workshop will take you through a strong vinyasa practice of deep twists, inversions and profound forward folds which when combined allow for optimal cleansing. Through hip openers, writing exercises and meditations we will address habits, patterns and relationships that  no longer serve us while moving into awareness of what does.

A Forrest Yoga Intensive

Ana Forrest, creator of Forrest Yoga has a unique and powerful philosophy and approach toward yoga. Ana has spent over 30 years developing Forrest Yoga specifically to address current day stresses and challenges, both physical and emotional. We use intense pose sequences, compassionately taught, to develop skills in awakening each of the senses. This workshop will use the principles of Forrest Yoga to explore the physical and emotional blockages often found in the hip and pelvic region. The hips are often said to be the storehouse of emotions. Through exploration of the physical blocks that limit hip flexibility, these emotions can resurface and be released from the body to allow for a deeper yoga practice. This workshop is open to new students and advanced practitioners who are curious about the dynamic method of Forrest Yoga.



Opening Your Heart to the Full Moon

Join Chae for a special Full Moon Yoga practice. First we will enjoy Chandra Namaskar to honor the full moon, and then with a warm body we will move into a heart opening practice of back bends. Through gentle hands on adjustments, sequencing of asana, and a focus on principles of alignment, Chae will lead you through this afternoon of honoring July's Full moon.

 

 

Hip Openings

Sink in and Release

During the winter months we tend to be less active and our hips can become a store ground for physical and emotional tension. Hip openers are a satisfying way to release stress, increase mobility in the hip joints and strengthen the knees and lower back. Through hip sequences, we will focus on opening the mind and body through mantra, pranayama and asana, releasing stored energy and creating space in the  the hips and psoas muscles.

Prana Flow

This special afternoon has been designed to allow you to experience and embody the movement of Prana, the yogic life force. Through a hip opening “fire” practice, we will focus on energetic alignment and finding a balance of energy in standing postures, arm balances and hip openers. All students are invited to wear the colors of fire, enjoy the Prana and experience the bliss.

Yoga is not one size fits all! Most of us hold a high level of tension in our shoulders, neck, back, chest, and hips. While you learn to practice T’ai chi you will find relaxation throughout your whole body and a greater sense of well being in your life.

 Yoga For Men,
A 6-Week Series



Balancing Body and Mind; A Comprehensive Six-Week Series

Whether athletic or sedentary, young or old, males are typically less flexible because of tighter, larger muscles in the arms and legs. This class will address these areas and begin to lengthen the muscles, building flexibility. We will cover benefits, contra-indications, the breath, yoga philosophy, basic postures, and how to tailor a class in order to suit your specific needs.  Strength will also be addressed with poses and movement that require you to support your own body weight while maintaining body position and control. Most importantly, we will de-stress the mind and body at the end of each class through a guided relaxation that will leave you feeling energized and focused.



Yoga & Meditation For Stress Reduction,

Understand Stress, Improve Relaxation Skills, Experience Well being

Through discussion and practice you will be educated in the basic physiology of stress and come to understand how practicing yoga and meditation can undo the emotional and physical problems often caused by chronic stress. In each session you will learn to actively manage stress through the practice of simple yoga asana intended to encourage opening and relaxation of the physical body. You will receive instruction for deep relaxation techniques & breathing practices which  will calm and quiet the mind, and you will be guided through meditations which will enhance awareness and clarity.  This is a wonderful opportunity to learn some basic skills that can greatly improve the quality of your life off of the yoga mat as well as provide a wonderful foundation for attending other yoga classes.

We have Eco-friendly non slip Jade yoga mats available for purchase and for rent. Mat rentals are $2 and come with a Jo-Sha eco-friendly scented mat wipe. Now you can enjoy a fresh scented practice!


All other props are plentiful and complimentary.

Bottled water is available for $1

Please plan to arrive about 10 minutes prior to class so that classes may begin and end on time.

Mat Storage: $10 month if you would like us to store your mat for you at Yoga Child.  Just check in with the front desk staff and we can help you with this.

Atttire: Wear comfortable clothing that allows for freedom of movement
